Recipe: Basic Chocolate Protein Balls
This is a great basic recipe to get into making your own protein balls. I use a food processor to make this, but they could also be made without one – it would just require a bit of grunt work (and a lot of chopping or mashing for the dates!).
Ingredients
2 cups of dates, soaked in hot water to soften (save some of this water to use later in the recipe)
1 cup of rolled oats
1.5 cups of protein powder (I like plain hemp protein powder)
2 cups almond meal
1/3 cup raw cacao powder
Desiccated coconut
Instructions
1. Add the dry ingredients into a food processor and mix.
2. Scoop the dates out of the water and add to food processor. Mix again
3. Add very small amounts of water a little bit at a time, mixing as you go until the mixture all clumps together.
4. To prepare for rolling the protein balls, pour out some desiccated coconut into a bowl
5. Scoop the mixture out into approximately golf-ball sized lumps. Roll in the palm of your hands until smooth and ball shaped. Roll the ball in the desiccated coconut to cover. Repeat with the rest of the mixture. Voila!
