Recipe: Chocolate Chickpea Dipping Sauce

This is a great, easy recipe based on one from @healthyfrenchwife on Instagram. I’ve used this in the past for Christmas and birthday parties. I think it would work well for any occasion - who doesn't love chocolate and fruit together!?

Ingredients

1 can of chickpeas

¼ cup raw cacao powder

1/3-1/2 cup of plant-based milk of your choice (I often use organic soy milk)

¼ cup maple syrup or brown rice syrup (either works well, but maple syrup is slightly sweeter)

A pinch of salt

Directions

1. Drain the chickpeas and rinse thoroughly in running water.

2. Place chickpeas, cacao powder, syrup, salt and approximately ¼ cup of your chosen milk into the food processor and mix until well combined.

3. Slowly add in more milk a little bit at a time, until you get a very smooth consistency. I find it easiest to stop the food processor and check the consistency after each time I add more milk, to avoid making it too runny.

4. Once you’ve reached your desired consistency, pop the mixture in a container and place in the fridge for an hour or two until chilled.

5. Serve with fresh cut fruit such as strawberries, banana, mulberries, orange slices and kiwi fruit.

Note:

I’ve used canned chickpeas in this recipe to make it a quick and easy one to whip up last-minute. However, using dried chickpeas that you soak overnight and then cook until soft would also work very well!
